X1 Console home page

X1 Console is an open-source tool by BlackBeard that installs and runs an X1 validator from a menu. It builds and starts Tachyon and the pinger, checks the validator's health, and recovers it when delinquent (Autopilot checks every 30 minutes).

It updates Tachyon within 48 hours of X1 Labs' bootstrap node, at a random time. It also stakes spare vote-account funds, moves withdraw authority to a Ledger or a local file, and sends performance alerts to Telegram. The README lists the machine it expects: 12 cores, 192 GB RAM, 4 TB NVMe and Ubuntu 22.04.

  1. Guide

Run an X1 validator with X1 Console

X1 Console puts the official setup steps behind a menu. Many operators use it.

Votes are free on X1, so a validator's main cost is the server. X1 Console, BlackBeard's open-source tool, puts the whole setup and day-to-day running of a validator behind a menu, and many operators use it.

    The machine

    The X1 Console README lists:

    • CPU: 12 cores / 24 threads or more
    • RAM: 192 GB (raised from 128 GB once the accounts index moved into memory)
    • Disk: 4 TB NVMe
    • Ubuntu 22.04.5 LTS, with a non-root user that has sudo
    • At least 5 XNT in the identity wallet to start

    What it does

    • Installs, builds and starts Tachyon and the pinger, and connects to testnet or mainnet.
    • Health check: shows whether the validator is active or delinquent and tries to diagnose why.
    • Autopilot: checks every 30 minutes and tries to bring a delinquent validator back.
    • Auto-Updater: upgrades Tachyon within 48 hours of X1 Labs' bootstrap node updating, at a random time so the network does not restart all at once.
    • Auto-Staker: stakes spare funds from the vote account, merges stakes and tops up identity and stake accounts that fall below 1 XNT.
    • Moves withdraw authority to a Ledger or a local file, so the server never holds the key that can take the funds.
    • Telegram alerts for performance and skip rate.

    Why it's good for X1

The more people who can run a validator well, the more decentralized X1 gets. A tool that automates upgrades and recovery lowers the skill needed. The random update schedule is a thoughtful touch: it keeps a whole fleet of console-run nodes from restarting at the same moment.

    What to watch

    • Wait for the console to support a new Tachyon version before upgrading through it.
    • Keep withdraw authority off the server. A Ledger is the safest option.
    • Check delinquent stake on the network before any manual restart.
